Monthly Livestream #9!
Here's the repost of today's livestream - thanks again to everyone for tuning in and having some great questions!
I started off in the holiday spirit playing "Skating", by Vince Guaraldi (from "A Charlie Brown Christmas"), then played Dave Brubeck's "Dziekuje (Thank You)", which he composed on a train in Poland in 1958 and dedicated to Chopin.
Then we moved into some questions that included: which elements are predetermined when you start to play a tune vs. what is in the moment, a question about the soft pedal and the middle pedal, about dealing with whatever piano you're dealt, and a conceptual question about room for "randomness" in improvisation. And some other places as well. And I closed things with another Dave Brubeck tune called "Nomad", also from the Jazz Impressions of Eurasia album that was mentioned earlier in the stream.
Happy holidays to everyone, and look forward to seeing you all next month!
