Monthly Livestream #25!
Thanks for tuning into the livestream yesterday! Here's the recording.
I started things off with a few standards: "A Foggy Day", and "Lament". Then had a bunch of great questions. First was one about piano sound, and how to practice it - a big topic! But I mentioned some of my teachers, some resources I've enjoyed (books, websites, etc.), some general tips, and also the importance of seeking great pianists live and in person! Then into a question about using a number of notes as a motive for improvising, which is also something I mentioned in this month's video, as well as in a recent masterclass for jazzheaven.com. And then a question about playing outside the changes on a diatonic vamp, and a question about improvising melodies. And for that I highly recommend this exercise I learned from Aaron Parks.
I think that was it! Hope you enjoy this session, and look forward to seeing you all again next month!
