Monthly Livestream #26!
Thanks for tuning in to yesterday's livestream! Started off with a few tunes: "Farewell to Dogma", by Mulgrew Miller, then "Airegin" by Sonny Rollins.
Then moved into some great questions - first was one about the value of practicing transposing - is all 12 keys useful? Is transposing entire solos useful? Then into one about how to memorize music, and some tips for strengthening our memory for tunes. Then had an interesting question about soloing over tunes with lots of chord changes vs. soloing over tunes with only one change. Then a specific question about an intro that Chick Corea played on a live recording of Humpty Dumpty, and a discussion of what players might be thinking about when they play intros. Are they sometimes just trying to be abstract and weird and is that all they are thinking (spoiler: yes!). And a question about how to practice comping and how to be a compelling accompanist, and finally a question about bench height and posture.
And apologies for the technical difficulties this month - I was trying a new AV setup and there was a delay in my vocal mic that was giving a weird echo to my speaking, and when I was playing it was especially noticable. And towards the end of the stream there were some glitches in the video. Thanks again for bearing with me, and I hope the information still came across. I've already figured out what was going on and it won't happen again next month!
Thanks again everyone, and see you next month!
