Monthly Livestream #27!

Hi everyone - here's the recording from yesterday's livestream!

Started off with a few standards - "The Shadow of Your Smile" and "Out of Nowhere".

Then moved into some great questions! First about bebop phrasing, and adding more chromaticism to our lines (for this I recommended a cool chromatic scale fingering that Barry Harris uses.) Then into a question about how to develop more rhythmic fluency in our improvising, then about my process for transcription. And then a discussion (that became a bit abstract) about how to leave space when playing solo piano, and a bit about some ways that our left hands can use simple "shells" to play time and free up our right hands. Then had a detailed discussion of some ways to navigate minor ii-V-i's, and finished things off with a brief discussion of differences in approach between solo and trio playing.

We covered a lot of ground!
