Monthly Livestream #45!

Thanks for tuning in to today's livestream!

I started off by reading a bit of "Black Orpheus" and "Ana Maria" from the Solo Vol. 2 transcription book that just came out on Monday! I'm super excited that this is out, and hope you all enjoy it. You can get it at Michael Lucke's website, and he's offering a 25% discount from now until the end of the year! And for those of you outside the US, you can get physical books on Amazon!

Then moved into some quesions:

-Had a question about Softly as in a Morning Sunrise - so played a version of that tune and talked a bit about some ways to navigate soloing on the A sections.

-About the use of the pedal when playing block chords - a very interesting and important question! Demonstrated a bit on some comping over a blues, and also over a ballad. ('Tis the season - played the Christmas Song)

-Then had a question about transcribing, and the value of practicing a transcription slowly. Basically yes I think this is very valuable!

-About the comping on the Coltrane blues "Mr. Day". We listened to this classic recording a bit, and it led to a discussion of "sus chords with 3rds" and/or "dominant chords with 4ths".

And that's it for 2023! I've got some more goodies coming for you all in 2024, stay tuned...

And happy holidays!

-Glenn
