Monthly Livestream #48!

Thanks for tuning in to today's livestream! Here's the recording.

I started off with a take of the standard "Spring Is Here" (it being spring-y today here in Brooklyn), and then that led to a brief discussion of Bill Evans' famous version of this song. Then I played a tune that I've had on my mind for a while, "Killing Me Softly".

Then had a question about the "Chorale-Type Playing" that I discussed in an earlier video (here's the video: "Chorale Type Playing"), and whether it could be applied to other styles than ballads, and other instrumentation than solo piano. And yes it can! Using Blue in Green as an example, this turned into a pretty lengthy and technical discussion that talked about fingering, pedaling, harmony, and hearing more than one thing at the same time. It also featured a bunch of different approaches to Blue in Green - even 8ths, bright swing, as well as rubato and slow ballad.

Another Patreon video that I mentioned in here was this one: Using Harmonic Rhythm, this might be an interesting follow-up if anybody wanted to check this out some more.

Then had another question about fingering - this was about triad pairs, and led to one of my favorite exercises for practicing arpeggios.

And that's it! Thanks again everyone, and see you next month!
